To date, all my posts on this blog have been focused on either (tabletop) games or triathlons. As my general appetite for posting on the various social media platforms has waned, I find myself wanting for a way to keep my friends and family updated on the goings on in my life and brain.
So this blog will shift to a more general purpose personal blog, and if you want to know what I’m up to, this’ll be a good place, if I keep up with my intentions.
One more bit of context for this decision, which will also serve as the first personal update I’ll post here: on April 22, Danielle, Graham and I are moving from Santa Monica to Vancouver!
If this is the first you’re hearing about this and you’re a little taken aback by the suddenness of the news, I regret that. I’m sorry that I haven’t been super communicative in general with many people in my life, and I’m hoping that this blog will help remedy that some.
The reasons are twofold, the first of which is work. Danielle works for Disney Animation, which recently opened up a new studio in Vancouver. She’s taking a promotion and working out of there. From all accounts, it’s a great opportunity for her professionally.
The second, at least for me, is that I need a break from this country. We first start considering this move sometime around last summer, not long after the Uvalde shooting and the repeal of Roe v Wade and amidst the circus of the midterm elections. Becoming a parent has required my brain in a certain way that finds the callousness and cruelty of much of this country’s politics particularly intolerable. The events above were not the only things to make a move favorable, but they were the final ones.
There’s a lot to do before we move. I’ll be busy doing my part to dig up our roots for the transplant, and trying to say all the goodbyes I can.
If you’re reading this, I hope I get to say them to you as well.
