Kids Sleeping for Others: It’s Not Just Us ๐Ÿ˜…

This tweet and the replies are a real mood:

When we put Graham to sleep, he can’t do it without us staying in the room until he’s asleep. And when he wakes up, he immediately screams for us (usually Yours Truly) to come back into the room and help him get back to sleep, escalating in intensity the longer it takes. This has not always been the case, but it’s pretty persistent now and not a short-lived phase.

When his nanny Sylvia puts him to bed at night, he not only doesn’t need her in the room when he falls asleep, he tells her to leave! “Yeya,” he says, “go out room.” Then he sleeps all night on his own and hangs out in his bed in the morning, talking contentedly to himself, until we come get him up.

People sometimes ask, “What does Sylvia do different?” And honestly I think the answer is just: “Not be his parent.”
